“I have a new song on the way called ‘The Outside.’ This song is about the memory of my birth and stemmed from the feeling of not wanting to be here. It is a mixture of Cinematic and Ethereal genres with subtle elements of Metal.”

Inspiration for your music

“My imagination is my inspiration as well as Sci-Fi, lore, mythology, personal experiences, and spirituality.”

Keyboard/piano. I have a home studio set up but also work with producers in their studios.

“CREATIVE QUEEN (Official Music Video)” – HOLY BASIL

“‘Creative Queen’ is a multi-genre powerhouse anthem. It’s about my tribulations of playing the victim in Narcissistic relationships, and my journey to reclaiming her feminine power.”

“Defying all expectation of genre, ‘Creative Queen’ immediately grabs your attention with its elements of Hyperpop and Electronic paired with gripping lyrics. As the song reaches full bloom, it yields more pleasant surprises with a Classical entourage and an upbeat Rock anthem.”

What is the inspiration behind your Artist name?

My Artist name is derived from my surname Beisel which is German. Nobody could ever seem to pronounce it properly! I had a friend that used to call me Basil because she couldn’t pronounce Beisel. So Basil stuck with me before I was even making music. Holy Basil landed as an Artist name when I was wondering what to call myself and it just felt right. It’s pronounced Ho-lee not Holly, somehow people still get that wrong!

Can you please walk us through your creative process when making new tracks?

Most of the time it starts with a random line that pops into my head, which can often come from a concept I’m pondering on or from a deep emotion I’m feeling from a personal experience. I usually just start writing and as I write the melody kinda just forms. I can hear it all inside my head as I’m writing the lyrics. From there I usually go to my keyboard to map out the chords, timing, structure etc. and then get stuck into production and finding all the sounds for the track that I’m hearing inside my brain.”

Is there a particular environment or setting that inspires your best work for music creation?

I can get inspired pretty much anywhere; I just have to write down whatever comes to me in the moment so I don’t miss it but the easiest place to initially write a full song is just at home or in another environment that’s nurturing to my creativity.

How has your personal sound and style evolved over the years?

“I feel like overall my production has evolved just by working with others that have more experience than me and I can learn from. Having more dedication toward my vocals has given me massive improvement and confidence in that area. I think the more songs I write and produce and release, the clearer things are becoming for me. I’ve always wanted to have a really unique quirky kind of sound that expands through a diverse range of genres.

What do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?

I especially want to reach more neurodivergent types of people and just be able to write songs about alternative topics that people may think about but not be bold enough to say out loud…for fun but also for them to know that they’re not alone and be able to express with a song what they maybe couldn’t express just with words.”

Are there any upcoming projects, collaborations, or experiments you’re excited to share with your fans?

“Yes, I have a new song that is set to release between July 5th-12th, 2024! I will be releasing at least 3 more songs this year as well as a podcast I will be launching very soon called ‘For The Art’ which will focus on emerging Artists.

“I’m also creating my own lore based around my music and learning animation.”

“As for live performances, I’m currently building my fan-base by playing intimate shows and house concerts across Gold Coast and Brisbane, with a show planned in Gold Coast coinciding with the release of my next EP in September of 2024.”
